So you’re probably wondering what is the fascination behind corner units? Why are they so popular? I wondered about this myself and went out searching for the answer. After several conversations with other homeowners, the one common thread of thought amongst them is to do with keeping their home neat and tidy. What can they do to maintain some order in the house? After all, if all your belongings are well organized, your living environment will be that much more comfortable. In addition to this, any guests visiting you won’t think you’re a slob.

With home organization as the primary driver, what benefits do corner units provide in particular? The corners of rooms tend to be more difficult to fit useful furniture than other areas. Since we should all try to use the spaces in our homes more effectively, getting a corner unit can be an appropriate solution. As you will soon see, there are several areas of the home that can benefit from corner unit furniture.

In addition to the practical advantages, corner units come in various designs with the most popular choices being made from wood. For people who are after a light colored finish, a pine corner unit is a common selection, whilst for those who want darker colored finish, an oak corner unit is at the top of the list.

Corner Shelving Units

Do you have some bulky items scattered around in your garage? Or perhaps you have them stored away in a shed and when you need them later on, you have to dig through other things to find what you want? A corner shelf can be used to hold items of different sizes as the shelves are generally adjustable on assembly. Select the right height for each shelving level. They mostly come in a flat pack so you can customize each shelf. Also, the shelves are reinforced with steel rods making them sturdy.

Corner TV Stand

If you spend a fair amount of time in your living room watching TV, then you would likely want it to be a comfortable environment. Given that in a typical modern household, you are likely to own not only a TV but also various accompanying electronic equipment such as a TiVo and DVD recorders, maintaining the wires can be a nightmare. Particularly when available space is an issue, you wouldn’t want loose wires spread across areas that are subject to high human traffic.

With a corner TV stand you can avoid such a troubling scenario and since power outlets in a majority of households are situated in the corners of room, this makes them that much more suitable.

Corner Desk Units

I heard many times that people often find the amount of space provided by a regular rectangular desk is insufficient for their use. Typically when a desk is occupied by a computer, printer, phone and a stationery holder, you won’t have much space with which to do work. Unless you have a huge office room and can afford a large office desk then you’ll have a problem. Even if you buy yourself two desks, this is not an efficient use of space.

With the right-sized corner desk unit to fit into your office, you can achieve the extra desk space you desire and make use of the corner.

Bathroom Corner Unit

Another room in a house that can benefit from a corner wall unit is the bathroom. There are actually a few different kinds of storage units you can get for your bathroom. Firstly, there are corner linen cabinets designed for storing towels, extra pillows and toiletries. Another type is the corner vanity unit, which comes with a sink and storage underneath. This storage compartment can either have doors or just be shelving. If your shower unit is built into the corner and you are in need of an easily accessible place for soaps, shower gels and the like, then a corner shelf unit is ideal.

Kitchen Corner Unit

I have come across a couple of different types of corner units for the kitchen both of which are constructed to store away all your pots, pans and other kitchenware with an odd shape. There is the typical kitchen corner cabinet with simple hinged doors and possibly drawers. Then there are the magic corner units such as the one from Vauth-Sagel. Unlike an ordinary kitchen corner unit, there is shelving attached to the inside of the door itself as well as within the unit. The inner shelves sit on a hinging mechanism so that when you swing the door close, these shelves slide further into the unit to give room for the door-mounted shelves. They slide across toward the unit opening for easy access when you swing open the door.

Corner Display Units

Are you a casual antique collector or you simply have valuable items that you want to put on display in your home? However, a wide enough space isn’t really available in your living room, foyer or the like? This is where a corner display unit can come in handy. There are some units which are tall and slender enough to use less horizontal space whilst taking advantage of any vertical space that would otherwise be wasted.
