Keepsake Boxes Guide
71As you know, time can pass by very quickly. One moment your child is playing in the school yard, and in a blink of an eye, he or she is a young adult who has moved out of home and about to get married. You most likely have experienced numerous important events in your life of which you like to have kept some sort of record.
There definitely isn’t a shortage on the ways in which you can maintain a record of these occasions, particularly with the current technology available. For example, people have turned to scrapbooking, digital video and photo recordings. These are fantastic methods but sometimes you might have physical objects which are associated with the person or occasion that you also want to keep, which wouldn’t be suitable with those mentioned methods.
Keepsake boxes will allow you to store more than just photos, letters and other small, relatively flat items. There are a huge range from which you can choose – different styling to suit men, women, children, etc; small and large keepsake boxes; different material such as glass, leather, metal, porcelain, wood. This hub will describe some of the common types of keepsake boxes to give you some ideas.
Baby Keepsake Boxes
Birth of a baby is obviously a very special moment in any parent's life. As such, it should be marked down so later on when you child has grown up, you’ll be able to think back and reminisce those innocent and cherished times with your child. You can place things like your baby’s first pair of shoes, first baby rattle, clothing, pacifier, etc into baby keepsake boxes. I’ve even heard people putting birth certificates into them. You can get designs based on the gender of your baby such as boxes with pink flower patterns for girl or with blue star patterns for boys. There are designs that follow certain themes (e.g. trains) and even Disney characters (e.g. Winnie the Pooh).
Wedding Keepsake Boxes
Another memorable occasion in a person’s life is their wedding day. However, when you are in the middle of it all, you could be extremely busy with everything that is happening around you, and thus enjoying the moment can be challenging. You might feel as if the day just passed by very quickly. Aside from having a ton of photos and video recordings, there are other items that may contribute to significance of the day – wedding cake decorations, a copy of the wedding invitation, the guest signing book, and the well wishes cards from the guests. Place such items together with the photos in a wedding keepsake box.
Jewelry Keepsake boxes
Do you have a piece of jewelry that has been passed down through the family from many generations? Maybe your great grandmother’s necklace? Or perhaps a wedding ring that has been entrusted to you for your own big day? Such important family heirlooms need a safe storage place. This is where keepsake jewelry boxes come in. Not only would they have a beautiful (and intricate) design such as sterling silver or crystal, these particular keepsake boxes usually come with a lock to add that bit of security.
Memorial Keepsake boxes
If someone close to you has passed on, having a memorial keepsake box containing the essential personal items from their life can be an effective way to keep the memory of them alive. If the person had served their country or was a war veteran, then this is a way of honoring their courage and heroism. You can get boxes with a panel on the lid or on the front to place a photo of your loved one, hence personalizing the box.
Pet Keepsake Boxes
The bond that a person forms with their pet can be so strong they become another member of the family. As such, once they pass on, there may still be an emotional connection with the pet’s various items. Place things like your pet’s favorite chew toy or collar in a pet memorial keepsake box along with a bag of their cremains.
Personalized Keepsake Boxes
As briefly mentioned earlier, whatever the occasion for which you want to keep a memory, you can either buy a pre-made keepsake box or have them custom made. With a lot of the pre-made boxes, the manufacturer often offer an engraving option allowing you to add the name of the event or person, add the date of the event or a special message. Otherwise, you can get a keepsake box completely designed from scratch according to your own specifications.

I think keepsake boxes are great and are also a good gift for kids. Mine all have one that their grandfather made them and they keep their best treasures inside them.
