It seems like leather bar stools are quite popular these days as furniture pieces in homes as they often compliment breakfast bars, kitchen islands and game rooms. Aside from their practical purpose as seats, depending on the style and design you choose, a leather bar stool can also add to your home décor.

The leather upholstery tends to bring class and elegance to the room in which the stools are placed. Another upside to opting for leather as supposed to fabric bar stools include the fact that cleaning up stains and spillage from drinks is generally easier. Also, they can be comfortable to sit on and good quality leather is durable, so you can be sure that your investment will stand up to the test of time.

Traditional Leather Bar Stools

As you can probably imagine, there is a huge range of choices when it comes to style. Generally, the classic or traditional leather bar stools have frames made from wood. The wood could either be hardwood such as oak and cherry, or softwood such as a solid pine. The different woods will exhibit different appearance such as in the color and the size of knots (if present). You can buy them unfinished or stained.

If you want to achieve a Western ambience in your home, there are Western leather bar stools, whose seats are made from cowhide. The unique carvings and embellishments add character to the stools. Some have frames made from iron.

However, if instead you want a bar stool with a French influence and project a majestic feel, probably something like a Hillsdale Fleur De Lis Barstool is more appropriate. There is one particular bar stool that has a intricately carved triple leaf design on the back.

Quite often, you might find that the traditional designs tend to be quite expensive (easily above $400 each). There are more affordable alternatives that will still allow you achieve a stylish look and without sacrificing on quality. A prime example is the Monte Carlo Leather Game Room bar stools with arms and a swivel seat. On Amazon, the sale price at the time of writing this hub is $144.

Modern Leather Bar Stools

Given that you desire a more modern design, then try having a look at contemporary leather bar stools instead. The frame is most likely to be made from a single particular metal material or metallic alloy. It is also possible to find these bar stools with a gas lift mechanism to allow you to adjust the height. This is an added flexibility that the more traditional designs are missing. However, I’ve noticed that most of these bar stools lack armrests. So depending on your personal preference, this may or may not concern you.

Color

Although they do come with seats in many colors, by far the most popular is black. I think that people find black leather bar stools are adaptable and hence easier to blend with a wide variety of surrounding environments. Also, any wear, stains or imperfections on the seat aren’t as visible compared to other colors. Other often sought colors include brown, white, cream and red leather bar stools.

Height

Besides the various designs you can get, leather bar stools are available with different heights. The most common heights are 30 inches and 24 inches as a majority of kitchen counters, breakfast bars and the like in houses are constructed to suit this level. Of course as indicated earlier, you can also find bar stools that have adjustable heights.

Features

Whether you prefer traditional or modern style, there are leather bar stools with and without backs. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages so the choice would come down to personal preference. A bar stool with a back means that you have something to lean against whilst sitting, which contributes to comfort. On the other hand, backless bar stools take less space since they lack the back component.

Another feature that some people may like is the ability to swivel. Again, this depends on your own preference. Personally, I find swivel leather bar stools useful as I can twist around to face the opposite side without needing to get up and turn the entire stool.
