Ring Boxes

By

When I mention the word “ring”, most people think of engagement rings and wedding bands. In reality, this isn’t the only occasion or circumstance in which rings have a role. After all, they are meant to symbolize something special and celebrate an occasion. Other than representing love and commitment between two people getting married, there are other situations. For example, after your son or daughter graduates from college, you might want to give them a ring to represent the momentous achievement. Also, when an athlete wins a major final of big event game like in football, there are championship rings to represent the dominance of the game.

Whatever the occasion may be, a ring should be accompanied in a ring box. Not only can ring boxes help in the presentation of the ring to the person on the receiving end, they keep the ring safe. It is less likely for the ring to become lost or to get scratched when kept in a ring box. So there is both a aesthetic and practical reason behind ring boxes. Similar to a ring, there are several ring boxes from which to choose and in this hub, I’ll show you some of the different varieties.

Engagement Ring Boxes

When you take the big step of proposing to your future life partner, you obviously want to make a great impression. And of course, choosing just the right engagement ring is a whole challenging task in itself. After that, you either settle for the default ring box that comes with the ring or you pick a matching engagement ring box. Aside from being a storage to contain and protect the ring, the box needs to present well. Having said that, it shouldn’t overshadow the beauty of the ring itself as that is after all the center piece.

The choice of the ring box boils down to the ring, the primary stone sitting on the ring, personal taste and budget. You can go for the popular, classic shapes such as round, square and rectangular boxes. The lids can be either flat or arched. The design of the exterior of the box can be simple and minimal with a suede, velvet or high gloss wood finish, or can consist of intricate accents and embellishments. I tend to find that most people opt for the minimalist square ring boxes. In terms of material, a common and classic one include wooden ring boxes.

Ring Jewelry Boxes

Although presentation may not be a major priority when it comes to storing your ring for safekeeping, you should still take care to choose a high quality jewelry ring box. For example, if the interior of a box is lined with velvet or leatherette, ensure that there are no holes in any of the seams. The main practical purpose of storing your engagement and wedding rings separately from your other jewelry is to prevent accidental chipping and scratching.

Again, a lot the decision here depends on personal taste. Besides the typical shapes, there are also oval, octagon, heart and even treasure chest shaped ring boxes. If you are into the elegant Victorian era look, there are antique ring boxes made from solid Sterling silver or perhaps a silver plated ring box from the Francis collection.

I’ve noticed that with some couples, instead of keeping their rings in separate jewelry ring boxes, they use double ring boxes. This could be something to consider when both you and your partner aren’t wearing your rings (e.g. during sleep and showers).

Ring Display Boxes

Now, people that purchase ring boxes aren't just the end consumers of rings. Sellers of jewelry also require such boxes for their products.

For those of you that own a jewelry shop or want to start a business in selling jewelry, you’ll need to invest in good quality ring display boxes. These vary in sizes - I’ve seen ones that have 36 ring slots while another that has 72 slots. The appropriate size would depend a lot on the dimensions of your display cabinet or bench. Also, be wary of the size of each ring slot. You may find that although most of your rings fit into the slots, your thicker pieces may pop out from the tight fit.

To save on money, you should try and locate wholesale ring boxes for both display and those that accompany the individual ring when sold.
