Saddle Stool
75Stools for sitting can come in varying designs, styles and with different features. With so many choices, it can be quite confusing when you go out searching for one for yourself. Therefore it is important for you to be clear about how you intend to use the stool. For example, are you purchasing a set of stools to add to the furnishing of your home? Or are you going to be using your stool all day long in an office environment?
The particular type of stool I want to focus my attention on with this hub is the saddle stool. The distinctive feature of saddle stools that make them different to other types is that they have uniquely shaped seats. I want to point out that there are also different types of saddle stools, which I’ll discuss later on, but they all generally have a curved seat rather than a flat, level seat.
Saddle Bar Stools
A saddle bar stool is manufactured for the purpose of complimenting your home décor. The reason that they are referred to as bar stools is because they originally were used in drinking bars. In a home, these stools, which tend to be 24 inches to 30 inches in height, are often used in the kitchen or dining area so you can sit at the counter or a breakfast bar to have a casual meal.
Their seats have a gentle concave shape, designed to be comfortable. They are often made from hardwood such as oak and cherry so not only are they very durable, the wood surface can be appealing to the eyes. You can choose for the wood to have a finish or be unfinished. Although an unfinished surface can be a great look, the finish would add some protection.
There is also the option of having a cushion with padding on the seat if you feel that would make sitting more comfortable. They can either be fabric or leather mostly.
The only downside with saddle bar stools is that they tend to be backless. However, since they are mostly used when having a meal or during social gatherings, you are unlikely to sit on them for long periods of time, so this may be a non-issue.
Camel Saddle Stool
Another style of saddle seat stool that you can consider to include in your home is camel saddle stools. These are much lower in height and have a wider seating surface area. They would a make a great addition to the backyard patio and you can use them during those casual get-togethers with friends and neighbors over an outdoor barbeque.
Ergonomic Saddle Stool
Other than being part of the home décor, there is another significant application for saddle seat stools. Sometimes, mainly because of a person’s profession, these types of stools are preferred over regular desk chairs. However, this means that the person using the stool will very likely be sitting on them all day long, day after day. A typical example is a dentist.
As such, the seats must be ergonomic otherwise they would be hazardous to the user’s health. Good quality saddle stools have seats shaped and angled to promote correct posture when sitting. They are designed to reduce and minimize lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain. The seat height is adjustable via a gas lift and the angle of the seat is adjustable as well so you can fine tune it for your body.
Ergonomic saddle stools can come with or without a back. With the former variety, the back is designed to provide appropriate lumbar support so your spine retains its natural curvature. However, this posture is artificially sustained. With a backless saddle stool, you are encouraged to engage your core abdominal muscles whilst you are sitting. So they have the advantage of helping you to strengthen your muscles as you work.
Tall Saddle Stool
In certain cases where you need to work at a standing height level such as in drafting or sketching, then you’ll need a fairly tall saddle stool. Unless you are very tall person, your feet would be hanging above ground while you’re seated, which may not be very comfortable over an extended period. So this taller range of stools has a foot ring so you can rest your seat.
If that is the case, you’re probably not going to be sitting on them all day long
